Great Wyrley Academy

PE/BTEC Sport

Meet the team:

Mr E Blake - Curriculum Lead of PE

B. Ed (Hons). I have always played sport and outdoor activities from my time in school. My specialisms are in Football, Swimming and Badminton. I believe that to be a well-rounded healthy individual you have to be active. I want to be able to show the careers, enjoyment and skill development that can be achieved through the world of Physical Education.

Mr D Fielder - Teacher of PE & Head of House

I studied at Sheffield Hallam University and Graduated in 1998 with a 2.1 (Hons) in Physical Education, Education and QTS. I joined Great Wyrley in 1998 and my love and passion for Sport and teaching young adults the importance of a healthy active lifestyle is as strong now as it was back then. Having been at the school for nearly 20 years I have seen countless students arrive as children and leave as young adults ready for the next challenge in their lives. I look forward to continuing supporting many more students, that come to us, for many more years to come.

Mrs J Medlicott - Teacher of PE

BSc Sport Science (Hons). I have enjoyed a wide range of sports throughout my life including football, swimming, karate and snowboarding. My main sport is hockey and I play regularly for a local team where I am vice-captain. As a PE teacher my aim is to instill a love of participating in sport and exercise and an understanding of the importance and benefits of being active not only in school but throughout their lives.

Mrs M McCarthy - Teacher of PE & Head of House

Studied BA (hons) Physical Education and Dance at Liverpool John Moores University. I enjoy all aspects of Physical Education, having studied it at both GCSE and A level. I still play competitive sport regularly; playing Hockey and Netball weekly. I believe Physical Education and Dance can enrich students beyond what they can achieve in the classroom. It is integral in teaching team work, leadership and co-operation. I enjoy being part of the students’ journey and helping them to develop into a well-rounded individual through Physical Education and Dance.

Mrs J Fielder - Teacher of PE

BSc Physical Education and Geography, PGCE in Physical Education. I attended Chester University where I was able to pursue my passion for Sport and gain the relevant qualifications that have enabled me to teach a subject that I love. My main Sport has been Football where I have played at a regional level. My Sporting Role Model is Jessica Ennis Hill who worked extremely hard to excel in the Heptathlon, but has remained grounded and professional despite her success.
